Characterization of peripartum cardiomyopathy by cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging

چکیده
Background Peripartum Cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is a potentially life threatening disease and the major cause of acute heart failure in the peripartum period. While many aspects of its clinical profiles have been frequently reported, functional analysis, in particular of the right ventricle, and tissue characterization by cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging have been only sporadically described. The aim of the present study was to analyze pathological alterations found in CMR imaging of patients newly diagnosed with PPCM.

[Evidence of gadolinium late-enhancement on cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in a patient with peripartum cardiomyopathy].
Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is a form of heart failure that affects women late in pregnancy or early in peripartum. The present report describes a case of a patient with PPCM demonstrated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with late gadolinium enhancement of the left ventricle (LV). The late gadolinium enhancement of MRI improved associated with recovery of cardiac function. Endomyocardia...

متن کاملCardiovascular imaging in clinical and experimental acute infectious myocarditis.
Acute myocarditis can be caused by a variety of organisms. Congestive heart failure and death may occur as a consequence of these infections. In recent years cardiac imaging, by echocardiography and magnetic resonance and nuclear imaging has become a useful adjunct in the diagnosis and management of infectious myocarditis. Specific examples of their usefulness will be given in the discussions o...
متن کاملMRI of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy/dysplasia.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is currently considered as the noninvasive modality of choice for evaluation of patients with suspected Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia (i.e., right ventricular dysplasia). As arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy/dysplasia (ARVC/D) it is included in the WHO classification of cardiomyopathies. It has the unique ability to provide tissue char...
متن کاملMyocardial Damage Detected by Late Gadolinium Enhancement Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Is Uncommon in Peripartum Cardiomyopathy
BACKGROUND In peripartum cardiomyopathy, the prevalence of focal myocardial damage detected by late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) cardiovascular magnetic resonance is important to elucidate mechanisms of myocardial injury and cardiac dysfunction. LGE equates irreversible myocardial injury, but LGE prevalence in peripartum cardiomyopathy is uncertain. METHODS AND RESULTS Among 100 women enrolle...
